Betsy helped me carry the bags, gifts and the baby hospital gear to the car while convalescing Karen stayed with Jacob in the post-partum room. When we got onto the elevator at the fifth floor, a man confirmed that we wanted the lobby. A woman got on at the fourth floor, also headed for the lobby. Around the third floor, I asked Betsy in a loud, clear, concerned voice, "Did you remember the baby?"
After the two strangers' confusion and horror drained from their faces a little, I let out a smirk. The man smiled, and asked about the baby who was, I assured, safe and accounted for.
